MCHS Spring Festival this weekend
04:35 am |
Parking and admission free
The Macoupin County Historical Society’s Spring Festival will take place this weekend, Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MCHS Museum, located at 920 Breckenridge St., Carlinville. Parking and entrance into the event are both free. Approximately 135 vendors will be selling their wares, and this year’s event will host booths with items for sale including woodcrafts, wind chimes, purses, jewelry and other handmade goods. Booth space is still available, and vendors are welcome to register the day of the festival. Vendors interested can call Kay Vance at 217-627-2851 for more information. Festival guests will have the opportunity to tour the MCHS Museum, a two-story Victorian home on the National Register of Historic Places. Museum tours are free for children under 6 years old, $1 for children 6-11 and $3 for adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Volunteers are needed to help sit in the rooms of the Museum, while it is open for tours. Those interested in volunteering can call Barb McCormick at 217-854-3099. The Museum Gift Shop, which features historical books, note cards and other treasures, will be opened during each day of the festival. The Genealogy Library will also be open during the Festival. The Festival will be a buzz with several demonstrations including blacksmithing, rug weaving and saw milling. Davis 1900 vintage saw mill demonstrations will be held throughout the event. Wood can be brought onto the grounds and sawed for a small donation, or slabs of leftover wood can be purchased. Prairieland Garden Tractor Pullers are having a garden tractor pull on Saturday north of the Village Blacksmith shop, and live music will be played both afternoons of the event. Other entertainment includes a tractor parade of many of the old tractors, which will be held each afternoon. As usual food will be served in the Red Barn and at the Agriculture Association concession building. Breakfast will be served in the Red Barn both mornings starting at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. churchgoers may attend a nondenominational service at the Old Country Church. The Spring Festival is hosted by the Macoupin County Historical Society, Macoupin Antique Agricultural Association and Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There are plenty of ways to keep up on BenGil news: Sign up for our weekly email newsletter Check out all of our pictures on our sister site, we are your personal photographer Like us on Facebook for a slightly different take Follow us on Twitter for the fastest score updates and breaking news updates …BenGil election results
