An Illinois State Police vehicle was one of three vehicles involved in a Sunday morning accident on northbound Interstate 55 around 10:48 at mile post 71 that shut the northbound lanes down for about one hour.
The accident marks the 11th time an Illinois State Police vehicle has been struck since January 1, 2019.
Authorities say the Trooper was sitting stationary on the inside shoulder with its emergency lights activated when Bailey Neiber, 19 of Belvidere, IL, lost control of her 2009 Honda passenger vehicle and struck the back of the State Police SUV squad car. Neiber then spun into the lane of traffic and was hit by a 2013 Volkswagen passenger car being driven by Hanna Bodrom, 25, Lincolnshire, IL.
The Trooper and Neiber were transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Litchfield with minor injuries by Farmersville-Waggoner Ambulance. The accident remains under investigation by Illinois State Police District 18.
