Ambulance Service membership drive starts next week
The 2020 membership drive for Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance Service gets underway the week of December 9th with the mailing of almost 7200 membership forms to the residents of the Gillespie Unit 7 and Carlinville Unit 1 School Districts. Look for the yellow membership form in your mailbox. Memberships for 2020 are due by December 31, 2019.
For your convenience, the stub at the bottom of the form contains the membership card. After completing the form, tear off the bottom stub; mail the member information sheet back to the ambulance service along with your payment and keep the stub. The membership card on the stub can be cut out and will fit in the member’s wallet. The membership card contains the phone numbers to call for ambulance service or to reach the ambulance office.
Residents who become a member of the service receive a reduced rate on the cost of their ambulance bill. The base rate charge for a member is $100.00 less than the rate charged a non-member and the mileage charge is half the rate charged a non-member.
The fee is $10.00 for an individual, $20.00 for a couple, and $30.00 for a family of 3 or more. In order to maintain the high level of service for the area, the ambulance service utilizes receipts from its membership drive to offset things like equipment repair and placement and training. Additionally, the ambulance service is continually working toward expanding our scope of practice and increasing our level of service to the Critical Care level which requires the purchase of additional equipment and further training and education for our staff. Our goal has been and always will be to provide the very best care to the patients we serve.
Memberships should be mailed to 208 Charles St., Gillespie, IL 62033 or brought by the ambulance office. The office is open from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. There is a drop slot to the right of the office door where items may be dropped off after hours. Anyone living in the school districts that does not receive a membership form or has questions about the membership should call the ambulance office at (217) 839-3032.
As a resident of the service area covered by the Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance Service please request your local ambulance provider in the event of a transfer between hospitals. Regardless of whether or not you are a member, your local provider is the primary response service for residents of this area.

The Wilsonville Progressive Club will celebrate and host a 90 year Anniversary Party on Saturday, May 11. The party will include a catered dinner, a live band, and fireworks.
Doors will open at 2 pm with a catered dinner being served at 4 pm. The Shane Kessinger Experience (live band) will play at 5 pm, and a grand fireworks display will be held at dusk.
The Progressive Club was originally established in 1934 by the Progressive Miners and was located on the northwest side of Wilsonville’s main street. The Club moved to their new building in January of 1949 and today this is still the current location at 212 Wilson Street in Wilsonville.
Wilsonville was founded in 1917 when Superior Coal Co. Mine No. 4 was sunk and this was the most modern mine in the Superior field. At that time, the little settlement which grew up around the mine was called Wilson. One day a worker paused and asked, “What are we going to name this town?” President Wilson was in office, thus the town was then and there named Wilson until 1919 when it was incorporated and the name expanded to Wilsonville.
The Wilsonville Progressive Club is operated and maintained by an elected panel of trustees and loyal members. The Club is open to the public and membership is always welcome. The large outdoor covered pavilion and manicured grassy side lot offer an attractive and convenient venue for any event along with inside facilities.
If you are interested in renting for any kind of event, call 217-835-3122 during open hours which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 4 pm to close, and Sunday doors open at 2 pm. Every Sunday afternoon at 4 pm is the Queen of Hearts drawing and the Club is on Facebook as well.

LITCHFIELD, Ill. — HSHS St. Francis Hospital is offering service opportunities to area teens this summer through the 2024 Junior Volunteer Program. Applications are being accepted now through May 1.
Applicants must be high school students maintaining at least a “C” average, be a minimum of 14 years of age by June 1 and be willing to volunteer at least two hours per week during the summer program. Junior volunteers will perform a variety of duties in various hospital departments.
Registration materials are available on the hospital’s website volunteer page at https://www.hshs.org/st-francis/community/volunteer.
All participants in the program will be required to present proof of immunizations for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), and Varicella (chicken pox). An additional requirement includes attendance at a hospital orientation.
