JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Rachel Faletto’s two-out single in the top of the eighth inning scored Kerri Dockins with the game’s only run as Saint Louis defeated host Jacksonville 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Wingate by Wyndham Opening Weekend Tournament.
Senior right-hander Kelcie Matesa (1-1) worked out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth, stranding two Jacksonville runners to preserve a fourth straight win for Saint Louis (4-2). Jacksonville fell to 2-3.
Matesa allowed four hits and four walks while striking out five. She worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning. Katie Kroeger had two hits for the Billikens.
Next for Saint Louis is the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament Friday through Sunday, Feb. 17-19, in Fort Myers, Fla. The Bills will face UT Martin, Florida Gulf Coast, Binghamton, Boston College and Delaware.
