A Bunker Hill woman was killed Monday morning in a single vehicle accident when she lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta said in a press release.
Heather Frith, 32 of Bunker Hill, was west bound on Brighton Bunker Hill Road before losing control of the vehicle around 5:50 a.m., according to Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl. Police said it is believed ice on the roadway caused the vehicle to lose control. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle overturned in a ravine and caught fire. The vehicle was fully involved when first responders arrived on scene. Frith was alone in the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at 7:50 a.m.
Targhetta said the preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma and no autospy has been scheduled however toxicology results are pending.
The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office announced on social media the road way closed in both directions, but reopened around 11 a.m. Assisting the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office on scene included the Bunker Hill Police Department, Bunker Hill Fire Rescue, and Shipman Fire Department.
The family had not selected a funeral home at the time of publication.
The accident remains under investigation by the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office.
