Bunker Hill Fire and Rescue, Bunker Hill Ambulance, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police District 18 responded early Sunday morning, June 23, to a single vehicle roll-over accident on Illinois Route 159 approximately 1/3 mile north of Moulton Road in Macoupin County after a vehicle left the roadway and over-corrected claiming the life of a Bunker Hill woman.
Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta identified the driver as Julianne Biro, 23, and pronounced her dead at the scene at 6:36 a.m. She was the only occupant inside the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police discovered Biro was traveling north on Illinois Route 159 around 5:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the west side of the roadway. Police say the vehicle over-corrected when she attempted to return to the roadway causing her to skid across the road before leaving the east side of the roadway, striking the ditch embankment, going airborne for approximately 140 feet before landing in the front yard of a residence, and then rolling multiple times.
Police said the vehicle ultimately came to rest upside down approximately 400 feet from where the vehicle struck the ditch embankment.
Targhetta said the cause of death and toxicology results are pending while no autopsy is scheduled.
Illinois State Police District 18 is handling the accident investigation.
