Couples getting married in Macoupin County will have a new convenient way to apply for their marriage license.
Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan recently announced that his office had rolled out an online marriage license application. Couples can now begin the application process online, filling out the required information for the application anytime and any place. While couples will still need to come in person to complete their application, this online tool will help speed up the process.
“Many times, couples don’t realize how much information is required when applying for a marriage license,” Duncan said. “This new procedure allows couples to apply for their marriage license from the comfort of their own home and have the time to fill out the application at their own pace. Using this option, the time spent applying in the County Clerk’s office is cut down dramatically. We’re always looking for ways to make interactions with our office easier from start to finish and this new tool has already done so for many couples.”
Under state law, both applicants must appear in the County Clerk’s office with a valid photo i.d. to complete the process. Couples are also reminded that they should apply in the County in which they will be married in, there is a 24-hour waiting period before the license is valid and the license expires after 60 days.
Duncan said those looking for more information on marriage licenses in Macoupin County or wishing to use the marriage application should visit http://macoupincountyil.gov/marriagelicense.htm.
