Audrey Irene Baker, 87, of Shipman, died at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville on Friday, May 12, 2017, at 9:14 a.m. She was born on December 5, 1929, in Grafton to Henry Smithpott and Theo (Gardner) Smithpott. She married Roy Lee Baker on August 3, 1946 in Bunker Hill.
Audrey was a member of the United Methodist Church of Shipman and Gateway Toy Club. She was a homemaker who enjoyed being a seamstress, gardening, traveling, and baking. She enjoyed her family, especially all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her spouse, Roy Lee Baker of Shipman; children, Gerald (Mina) Baker of Shipman, Dennis (Sonja) Baker of Plainview, Kenneth (Grace) Baker of Bethalto, Darrell (Cindy) Baker of Shipman and Faye Knoche of Staunton; grandchildren, Monica (Richard) Sawyer of Plainview, Tina (Jeff) Gibson of Gillespie, Denise (Gene) Seal of Troy, Matthew (Nicole) Baker of Plainview, Joel Baker (who is currently stationed with the US Navy at Norfolk, VA), Joshua (Julie) Baker of Bunker Hill, IL, Jeremiah Baker of Staunton, IL, Natasha Knoche of Staunton, IL, Alex Knoche of Staunton, Michael (Dusti) Knoche of Bunker Hill, Joshua (Carissa) Meyer of Staunton, Dan (Renee) Meyer of Breese and Cody Meyer of Edwardsville; great-grandchildren, Shelbey Sawyer of Chesterfield, MO, Connor Sawyer of Plainview, Lynsey Gibson of Gillespie, Owen Seal of Troy, Trevor Seal of Troy, Madelyn Seal of Troy, Brynn Baker of Plainview, Jaydon Baker of Plainview, Wyatt Baker of Bunker Hill, Weston Baker of Staunton, Braedyn Knoche of Bunker Hill, Emma Knoche of Bunker Hill, Alyssa Meyer of Staunton, Kaleb Meyer of Staunton, Hunter Meyer of Staunton, Bree Burch of Breese, and Summer Jeffrey of Breese; sister, Doris Dee Rhodes of Wilsonville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Cheryl Denice Baker, and sisters, Marjory Whipple and Eunice Rull.
Visitation services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at First Congregational Church in Bunker Hill, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Memorial services will follow on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jeremy Wood officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association.
