
Alan D. Best, 71 of Staunton, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born on April 13, 1949, in Staunton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth & Elizabeth “Betty” (Frame) Best.
He married Celia Rose Ashley on June 15, 1972, and she passed away on December 19, 2020. He worked as a machinist at Olin Corporation in East Alton for many years. Alan was a Vietnam veteran serving as a radio-repairman in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Staunton, a lifetime member of the Staunton VFW Post #1241, and the Machinist Union in East Alton.
He is survived by two daughters, Niki (Steve) Anderson of Staunton and Angie (Keith) Dal Pozzo of Staunton; two granddaughters, Aundrea Best of Staunton and Madison Best of Staunton; three brothers, Kenny Best of Decatur, Don (Linda) Best of Staunton, and Randy Best of Sandpoint, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Brian Best and Russell Best; sister, Janet Best; and niece, Abby Best.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 11 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton with Rev. Nancy Hubert officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
