Arlene Marie “Cookie” Bruch, 90, of Mt. Olive died Friday, January 29, 2016, at 6:18 p.m. at her residence. She was born May 15, 1925, in St. Louis, MO to the late Leo Joseph Reagan and Anna Eliizabeth Shust.
She married Dr. Vernon William Bruch on November 8, 1947, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Father Charles Knapereck in Mt. Olive. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2006.
Cookie attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1942. She proceeded to St. Louis Business College in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated in 1943. She was a life member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, now known as St. John Paul II, Mt. Olive and a member of The Altar & Rosary Society.
She was employed by Henrichs Publications, Litchfield for several years, then later worked for the State Of Illinois Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services Her last employment was the Administration Department for Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro and retired in December 1990.
Cookie served on the board of the 1st Senior Citizen Housing Project and was a past member of the Delta Tau Sorority. She enjoyed bowling in Schoppies woman’s league and was a Pinochle Club member. She loved movies with her friend Esther and was an avid reader.
She leaves behind two daughters, Camilla Granger of Lakewood, CO and Nadine (Jim) Scheller of Hillsboro, OR; son, Greg (Joyce) Bruch of Mt. Olive; sister, Audrey Reagan of Orlando, FL; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Schwarz of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Scheller, Philip Scheller, Reagan (Jeff) Geddes, Kristen Bruch, John (Tiffany) Bruch, Austin Bruch, Jeremy Bruch and Annedria (Colby) Kennedy; 13 Great-Grandchildren: Madison, Riley, Kayla, Bryan, Emily, Lillian, Connor, Nealon, Makakyla, Taryn, Avery, Griffin and Carrson.
In addition to her husband, Dr. Vernon William Bruch and parents, Leo Joseph & Anna Elizabeth Shust Reagan; she was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Reagan and sister-in-law, Lois Schwarz.
Visitation services will take place on Monday, February 1, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m. led by Father Larry Anschutz. Funeral mass will follow on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Olive.
The ladies of the Altar & Rosary Society will serve lunch for family and friends in St. John Paul II Hall.
Memorials are suggested to Masse, Mt. Olive Academic Foundation or Calvary Cemetery.
