Betty A. Sherfy Gipson, 69, of Bethalto, IL, formerly of Wilsonville, IL, died at her residence on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at 10:45 a.m. She was born on October 1, 1946, in Bragg City, MO to T.J. Holman and Naomi (Woods) Holman.
She married Gary Wililam Sherfy, Sr. on June 10, 1964, in Cottage Hills, IL. He died on May 4, 1991. She then married Leonard Edward Gipson on January 1, 2000, in Litchfiled, IL. Betty worked at the Roller Derby in Litchfield, the Diamond’s Restaurant & Truck Stop in Staunton, and Travel Center of America in Troy. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gillespie, enjoyed bingo and gambling.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Gipson of Bethalto, ; daughter, Lori Sherfy and her Companion, Steve Pierce of Wilsonville; two step children, Barbara Callaway of Chester and Sonny (Billie) Gipson of Leadwood, MO; three grandchildren, Michael Workman of Staunton, Katie (Dillan) Workman-Turner of Wilsonville and Kylee Pierce of Wilsonville; two siblings, Danny Holman of Bethalto and Randy Holman of Bethalto; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, TJ Holman; mother, Naomi (Woods) Holman; first spouse, Gary William Sherfy, Sr.; and two sons, Cary Sherfy and Gary Sherfy Jr.
Visitation services will be on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie with Pastor Jared DePoppe officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Gillespie.
Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie is in charge of the arrangements.
