Betty Jane Heyen, 89, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in her daughter’s home in Ozark, MO. She was born on May 25, 1926, in Madison, IL, a daughter of Charles Homer and Rose (Rolando) Parrish.
Betty lived with her grandmother, Theresa Rolando, while growing up and attended Gillespie High School during her teen years, later graduating from there in 1944. She then went on to St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield and graduated from there in 1947.
She then began working as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield where she continued for 42 years. After retiring from the hospital, she embarked on a career in real estate, working for several local agencies, but most recently as a realtor with Century 21 Simpson Reality.
Betty was a member of Holy Family Parish in Litchfield where she had been active with the Young At Heart group. She also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program and was a member of both the Illinois and National Realtors Association. She married Orville Charles “Bud” Heyen, Jr. on May 11, 1948, at SS Simon & Jude’s Church in Gillespie. They lived their entire married life in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1982.
She is survived by daughter, Amy (Bill) Eskes of Ozark, MO; sister, Shirley Zanter of Gillespie; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Mark & Matthew Heyen; and daughter, Kathleen Rose in infancy.
Visitation services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the time of service in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Funeral mass will be said on Saturday at 10 a.m. by the Very Rev. James L. Neuman, V.F. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Family Catholic Church or HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
