Charles Irwin “Chuck” Heaton, 75, of Litchfield, died Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 9:36 p.m. in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on July 17, 1940, in Bois D’Arc Township, Illinois a son of William Richard “Dick” and Thelma Marie (Meyers) Heaton.
He married Linda Louise Byers on May 29, 1960. They were married for 36 years, but later divorced. He began his 55+ year span in the automotive repair business early in life at Bandy Chevrolet and John’s Auto Body in Hillsboro. He later worked at M.I. Ford and Mike’s Auto Body, both in Litchfield.
He eventually began working from his garage at his home. In 1973, he built Chuck’s Auto Body on Tyler Avenue and continued to be active in the business. He also owned and operated Chuck’s Heaton’s Excavating for several years. He enjoyed going to car auctions, traveling, fishing, hunting, truck pulls, going camping and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Lee (Pamela) Heaton and Cary (Jennifier) Heaton; three daughters, Carol List of Gillespie, Cathy Loyd (Monty Barker of Highland) and Connie Joyce (John Browning of St. Charles, MO), both of Litchfield; 19 grandchildren: Derek (Brittany) Heaton, Nathan Heaton (Nikki Winters), Stephanie Heaton (Josh Walker), Meghann Heaton (Marshall Bechtel), Heather (Shaun) Zeller, Elisha (Andy) Revisky, Brittany (C.J.) Pollard, Lindsey List (Jake Harbaugh), Zachary List, Matt (Marlee) Stoneburner, Erica (John) Stanley, Tyler Stoneburner, Alyssa Loyd, Alex Joyce, Ian Joyce, Christina (Zach) Zipprich, Trevor Heaton (Dusty Ellsworth), Tiffany Heaton, and Blake Heaton; 26 great grandchildren; companion, Gloria Kopsie of Litchfield, and her children, Jeremy, Danielle and Timothy; one sister, Wanda Greenwood of Litchfield; his 4 legged furry companion, Kye; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glen Heaton and Shirley Heaton (in infancy); sister, Delores Kahle; and great-grandchild, Paisley Hayden Stanley.
Visitation services will be Friday, February 5, 2016, from 3 p.m. until time of service in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow on Fri., Feb. 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Jon Magnuson, of Beacon Church in Litchfield and Rev. Patrick Thacker, of Country Bible Church in Bunker Hill, officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to American Diabetes Association, Shriners Hospitals for Children or Adopt-A-Pet Shelter in Benld.
