David Lee Ahrens, 79 of Bunker Hill, passed away Saturday morning, October 22, 2022, at his residence in Bunker Hill. David was born on January 3, 1943, to Kenneth and Ella (LaRose) Ahrens in Battle Creek, MI.
Dave graduated from Englewood High School in Denver, Colorado, and then attended the University of Boulder. He married Bea Dot Standifer in 1967 in Denver Colorado and they later divorced. Dave married Diane Schulte on July 3, 1980, in Colorado Springs, CO and she survives.
He was a Special Projects Manager for T.R.W. Corporation in Colorado Springs and then in Fairfax, Virginia, until his retirement. David was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville. He was a stamp collector since he was 10 years old, was a history buff, and a fishing enthusiast.
He and Diane raised horses, donkeys, and any other animal that wanders onto their property. He loved his yellow lab, Ada, and the family cats.
David is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Douglas “Doug” (Yovonne) Ahrens of Glen Saint Mary, FL; two grandsons, Thomas (Karibeth) Ahrens and Michael (Gracie) Ahrens; granddaughter, Sierra Ahrens; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Annabeth, Silas Jack, River Lee, and Cooper.
David was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Ella Ahrens.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at the church with Fr. Joe Koyickal, officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bunker Hill.
Memorials are suggested to the Macoupin County Animal Shelter. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
