Dorothea Jeanne Marsh, 89, of Mahomet, IL, formerly of Bunker Hill, IL died at her home at The Glenwood of Mahomet Assisted Living Community in Mahomet, IL with her family present on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:36 a.m.
She had moved to Mahomet in December to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mark Alan, in Champaign. Before that, she had enjoyed living for two years at United Methodist Village in Godfrey, IL.
She was born on November 8, 1924, in Bunker Hill the only child to Lawrence Schreier and Edith (Whitfield), the owners of Schreier’s Bakery. Dorothea lived in Bunker Hill for 86 years. She married Donald R. Marsh on November 17, 1949 in Bunker Hill, IL. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2012.
After graduating from Bunker Hill High School in 1942, Jeanne attended Washington University in St. Louis for one year where she intended to become a Pharmacist. She worked in her uncle Dean Link’s drug store in St. Louis. She had a lifelong love of libraries and books and served as a volunteer on the Bunker Hill Public Library Board for 40 years. S
Dorothea enjoyed sewing, growing houseplants, and traveling. In the past two years, she especially enjoyed her autumn trips to Vermont to visit Tara and Tyler’s wooded land and check on their building projects. Jeanne loved people and always had a kind word or a smile to share with everyone she met.
She is survived by her two children, J.L. (Haven) Marsh of Fort Collins, CO, Lisa (Mark) Alan of Champaign, IL and three grandchildren, Lian Alan of CA, Tara Alan (Tyler Kellen) of VT, David Marsh of CO.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents and her spouse of 62 years.
Visitation services are on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services are Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Bunker Hill, IL with Rev. Jeremy Wood officiating. Burial will be at Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Bunker Hill Public Library or First Congregational Church. The family would like to thank Harbor Light Hospice, and the staff of the Glenwood in Mahomet for their wonderful care and support.
