Ervin William “Umps” Seiler of Benld passed away at the age of 92 on June 9, 2018, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born in Sawyerville on April 3, 1926, the son of Henry William and Lydia (Schweppe) Seiler.
Umps graduated from Benld High School in 1944 and briefly served in the Merchant Marine and U. S. Army prior to the end of World War II. He worked for the Shell Oil Company refinery in Wood River as a pipefitter/welder for over 33 years. Umps was a member of Croatian Lodge 217. He was a Master Mason and a member of Gillespie Lodge 214 for over 50 years. On October 19,1957, he married Marlene Kaitner at Gillespie Methodist Church . They have been married for over 60 years.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Lori (Greg) Bradfisch of Carmel, IN, and Julie (Brad) Pintar of Mahomet, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Bradfisch, Ryan Pintar and Paige Pintar; and four nieces and one nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, LeRoy and Harold Seiler; and half sisters, Rosina (Bierbaum) McKee and Verna (Bierbaum) Harmon.
He loved to spend time with friends and family and was a passionate Chicago Cubs fan.
Cremation will be accorded to Kravanya Funeral Home. Private gravesite services will be held in the Benld Cemetery.
