Faye Coffey Spencer, 95, of Gillespie passed away on June 6, 2019, at Heritage Manor in Gillespie. She was born on December 17, 1923, in Carlinville.
Faye was the beloved wife of the late Jesse Ralph Spencer; daughter of the late Frank Coffey and Leta Coffey; mother of Judy Spencer Dona (John W.) and Jack Spencer (Betty); grandmother of Jackie Spencer, Christy Spencer, Steven Spencer (Victoria) of Gillespie, Jeffrey Dona (Charlotte) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jamie Dona (Tisha) of Bloomfield, MO and John Alan Dona (fiancee’ Billie) of Cape Girardeau, MO; great grandmother to Breanne Mull, Karissa Mull, Katie Spencer and Nate Spencer; and sister of the late Wendall Coffey, Marjorie Jouett, and Virginia VanPelt.
Faye was raised on a farm in Carlinville and attended Carlinville High School and married her high school sweetheart and neighbor, Ralph on February 15, 1942. The resided on farms in the Bunker Hill, Gillespie and Dorchester area their entire married life. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until his death in 2009.
Along with farming, Mrs. Spencer and her husband had a long and distinguished career as purebred Duroc Breeders. Over the years, she and her husband raised and sold purebred Durocs to over 40 states and in over 50 countries. She and her husband were awarded the Illinois Seedstock Producer award in 1984. She had been a 4-H leader in her younger years and was an avid gardener, both vegetable and flower. She was known for her pie baking, especially her banana split pie.
Visitation will be held at the Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019, and on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by gravesite services at Bunker Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester Methodist Church.
