Gary Wayne Hicks, 71 of Staunton, died Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on September 13, 1947, in Broken Arrow, OK, the son of Gene Hicks and the late Mary (Decker) Guerin.
He worked as a forklift operator for Jefferson Smurfit in Alton for many years. He also drove a truck for CR England. He was a member of the Staunton Masonic Lodge # 177 A.F. & A.M. and Net Community Church in Staunton. Gary helped organize the “CHIP” program at the Staunton Elementary School. He married Betty Fulks on October 23, 1970, in Wood River, IL and she survives.
Also surviving are three children, Jeannie (Dale) Nance of Sawyerville, Tanya (Doug) Stueber of Grantfork, IL and Michael (Jessica) Hicks of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Christopher Hicks, Brittany (Ryan) Webb, Ariel (Nathan) Ward, Johnny Lovsey, Bryce Lovsey, Jordan Hicks, Xavier Hicks, Trinity Hicks, and Micha Hicks; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Nance; and one sister, Kay (Dave) Hoover of Tulsa, OK.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Cora Mae & Benjamin Decker and step-father, Earl Guerin.
Visitation services will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Net Community Church in Staunton followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Derrick Taylor officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Memorials are suggested the family.
