James Joseph “Beaver” Green, 76 of Mount Olive, died on Friday, June 12, 2020, at 5:42 a.m. in Cedar Hurst of Edwardsville. He was born on October 15, 1943, in Litchfield, to the late John Green and Mary Vukelich Green.
He married the late Dorothy Jean Tunnell Green on July 20, 1976 in Carlinville. She proceeded him in death on September 26, 2003. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1961. James attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church, now St. John Paul II, where he was baptized and confirmed.
James was a SP4 in the United States Army for two years. He received a Good Conduct Medal, Marksman (Rifle), and Sharpshooter Medal. He was a Mail Carrier for the Mt. Olive Post Office for 30 years and also served as the Postmaster for several years.
He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Olive VFW Post #5790, Mt. Olive J C’s, Litchfield Moose Club, and Mt. Olive Turner Hall. He was also a member of the Roller Derby Bowling Team, Schoppies Alley’s Bowling Team, and Turner Hall Kittenball. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, and University of Illinois Sports.
James leaves behind two sons, Bradley Michael Green and Christopher Patrick Green of Edwardsville; two brothers, Frank Green of Tuscon, AZ and Charles (Harriet) Green of Rochestwer, MN; sister, Cathy Houghby of Springfield; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Bill Green.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with buria at Elmwood Cemetery, Liitchfield. Military rites will be performed at the graveside. Memorials are suggested to Turner Hall. Becker & Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive is in charge of arrangements.
