Lucille C. (Baggio) Tiburzi passed away on February 2, 2020, in Bethalto. She was born on January 5, 1920, in the province of Vicenza, Italy, where she resided for the first 10 years of her life. In January 1930, she immigrated to the United States to join her mother, Angelina Orso, who had been living in Staunton since 1922. In August 1940, she married Ray Tiburzi, who predeceased her on August 31, 2019. Together, they crafted a beautiful marriage and partnership for 79 years.
Lucille was a cherished and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was delighted to host or, in her later years, attend family gatherings, particularly with children around. She made everyone feel loved and welcome especially as they gathered around her dining room table for a delicious meal or maybe just coffee and a conversation. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were evident to all who knew her.
Lucille is survived by five children, Diana Tessereau of Chesterfield, MO, Joyce (Don) Huber of Charlotte, NC, Dick (Liz) Tiburzi of Barnhart, MO, Jim (Vicki) Tiburzi of Glendale, MO, and Bob Tiburzi of Naalehu, HI; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to Ray, she was preceded in death by two children, Marilyn (1945) and Mark (Cheri) Tiburzi (2011).
Friends of Lucille and the family may call from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Staunton. A memorial mass and service will follow at 10:30 a.m Her remains have been donated to the St. Louis University School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Michael’s, the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or a charity of the donor’s choice. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
