Roland W. Knecht, 67, of Bunker Hill, IL, died at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. He was born on November 17, 1946, in Alton, IL to Wilbur H. Knecht and LaVerne (Gabriel). He married Susan A. (Baxter) Knecht in Bonita, CA.
He retired from the US Navy after serving for 22 years. He was also a farmer and a member of the American Legion, Country Bible Church where he also served as Trustee, 4-H and he enjoyed John Deere.
He is survived by his spouse, Sue Knecht of Bunker Hill, IL; children: Jody (Ken) Reeves of Wilsonville, IL, Ronald Knecht of Springfield, MO, Kim (Jim) Walsworth of Omaha, NE, Kenneth Kerns of Chula Vista, CA, Kevin (Nedra) Kerns of Granite City, IL; grandchildren: Jama Reeves, Quinton Reeves, Kathleen Walsworth, Casandra Walsworth, Aaron Walsworth, Mark Kerns, Michael Kerns, Ashley Kerns, Joe Rieser, Jimmy Rieser, Skylar Rieser, Brelynna Rieser; great-grandchildren: Blake (Michelle) Rieser, Allison Rieser, Christopher James Rieser; siblings: Loren (Diane) Knecht of Bunker Hill, IL, Russell (Roberta) Knecht of Benld, IL, Janet (Harold) Tackett of Springfield, MO and Arlean (Sonny) Balai of Bunker Hill, IL and several nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation services will be on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill, IL with Pastor Ron McKinney and Pastor Patrick Thatcher officiating. Burial will be at Fosterburg Cemetery in Fosterburg, IL.
Memorials are suggested to American Legion or Country Bible Church. Kravanya Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
