Wanda Faye Phipps, 89 of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton. She was born on June 6, 1929, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas and Grace Miller of White Hall. She married Chesney “Ernie” Phipps on February 1, 1948, in Yuma, Arizona, and he survives.
After nursing school she was an LPN at Calvin Johnson Nursing Home in Belleville. Upon retirement, she attained her real estate license and was a realtor for Juanita Brown Inc. in Belleville. She enjoyed cooking, home decorating, and spending time with friends and family. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton and found joy in participating in the various church functions.
She is survived by her husband, Chesney “Ernie” Phipps of Staunton; two children, Richard (Gloria) Phipps of East Alton and Donna Vesper of Staunton; five grandchildren, Brian Phipps of Girard, Patrick (Rochelle) Phipps of Springfield, Chris Vesper of Staunton, Kevin Phipps of East Alton and Michelle (Billy) Murray of Brighton; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Normal and Kenneth Miller.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton, with Rev. Kelly Mitteis officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, Illinois. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
