Wilburn John Martin, 83, of Bunker Hill, IL, died at Community Memorial Hospital in Staunton, IL on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 6:35 p.m. He was born on October 17, 1930, in Benton, MO to John Martin and Era (Grigsby) Martin. He married Karen Kay (Elberg) Martin on October 12, 1985, at Faith Tabernacle Church.
Wilburn was a painter and a veteran of the US Army after having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, small engines, playing cards and watching Cardinal baseball. He was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Wilsonville and Faith House in Alton, IL .
He is survived by his spouse, Karen Martin of Bunker Hill, IL; children, Suzie (Glenn) Cole of Wilsonville, IL, Cassie (Kevin) Klein of Bethalto, IL, Stephen (Belinda) Martin of Wilsonville, IL, Stephanie (Chris) McIlroy of Streamwood, IL, Tammy (David) Rain of Jacksonville, IL, Kimberly (James) Spurgeon of Bunker Hill, IL, Michael (Krystle) Burney of Honolulu, HI, Christina (Jason) Snyder of Bunker Hill, IL; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; brother in law, Ted (Cindy) Elberg of Bunker Hill, IL; siblings, Betty Rommerskirchen of Wilsonville, IL, Shirley Walden of Bethalto, IL; several nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews.
Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wilburn John (Butch) Martin, sister, Lawanda Brewer and brother, Kenneth Martin.
Visitation services for Wilburn will be on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Life Harvest Church in Wilsonville, IL from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services are Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Life Harvest Church in Wilsonville, IL with Rev. Stephen Martin and Rev. James Sturgeon officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
