She was a loyal and active member of the Carlinville United Methodist Church where she and Milton raised their children, and later of the First Assembly of God Church of Carlinville, where she supervised the nursery for many years. She was a seamstress, an artist, and an avid flower gardener. Her family and friends also knew her as a person of deep religious faith who believed strongly in the power of prayer.
