Ben-Gil Elementary School and an anonymous donor raised $1,961.20 to help hurricane victims by paying to wear hats during the school day on Thursday, September 7.
After Hurrican Harvey struck Texas, Ms. Petersen’s third grade class thought of a hat day fundraiser where students pay at least $1 to wear a hat the entire day. The effort gained traction through all grade levels and a total of $980.60 was raised from students. An anonymous donor matched the students’ effort to raise their effort to $1961.20.
The fundraiser monies were donated to the American Red Cross. The second grade collected the most money with $175.
