The Macoupin County Coroner’s Office announced four victims perished in a small plane crash about three miles south of Carlinville on Sunday, May 31. The single-engine plane took off from Creve Coeur Airport outside of St. Louis around 3:19 p.m. and crashed at 3:45 p.m.
Killed in the accident was the pilot, Joshua Sweers, 35, of Michigan, Daniel Shedd, 37, of Missouri, Daniel Schlosser, 39, of Michigan and John S Camilleri, 39, of New York. The four were reportedly fraternity brothers and all were engineer graduates from Kettering University in Michigan.
The group was traveling to Michigan to pick up a motorcycle which was going to be driven back to St. Louis. They were planning to attend a birthday celebration on Monday.
The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Aviation Administration will be conducting the investigation.
