Gillespie High School sent four teams to participate in the Regional Office of Education #40’s Gifted Olympiad on Tuesday, February 26. The Olympiad is a competition that focuses on logic problems, estimation/guestimation problems, construction problems, and math/science logic problems.
Schools from Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, and Macoupin Counties are represented. This year, 36 teams participated in the one-day event that was held at Crossroads Community Church in Brighton. The senior class team of Hannah Trumpy, Jack Jarman, Zach Schuette, and Lindsey Miller finished the day in first place. The Gillespie junior class team finished 9th overall and included Ruby Savant, Megan Hatlee, Chance Reiniesch, and Katie Reed.
Two underclass teams also participated for Gillespie. Those team members included: Sydney Bires, Jack Herron, Megan Labby, Anthony Ribes, Luke Hatlee, Levi Hatlee, Iris Page, and Alyssa McDaniel
