CARLINVILLE – Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jennifer A. Watson announced on Wednesday that Associate Judge Joshua A. Meyer sentenced Matthew D. Allen, 37, of Gillespie to 18 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the offense of sexual conduct with animals.
In July of 2017, the Gillespie Police Department received a complaint that Allen had posted a video to his Facebook account showing a male with “identifiable tattoos” performing a sex act on a German Shepard dog.
Watson said through the Gillespie Police Department’s investigation, it was determined Allen owned a German Shepard and his tattoos matches the male in the video. In a sentence hearing held on April 16, the State presented evidence that Allen had committed the same act with at least one other dog.
Allen was ordered to surrender to the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department on or before May 29, 2018. In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Meyer permanently banned Allen from owning any companion animal.
“I want to thank the Gillespie Police Department and retired Animal Control Officer Buzie Bertagnolli for their work in this matter,” State’s Attorney Watson closed.
