The Gillespie High School National Honor Society inducted eight students into the chapter on Thursday, March 10, in the high school cafeteria.

Inducted into the chapter this year were Ally Bires, Addison Bryant, Hannah Doty, Eli Fox, Jacob Martin, Chandler McDaniel, Amanda Schmidt and Tate Wargo. They join current members Blake Hayes (president), Regan Goldasich (vice president), Bailey Jarman (secretary), Stephen DeMartini (treasurer), Abby Eccles, Emily Harszy, Marissa Hartke, Evan Price, Michael Ross and Colin Tieman.

Membership is based on selective criteria and candidates must complete an application for admission. The faculty then votes on the potential members. Inducted members excel among their peers in academics, citizenship, character and leadership.

NHS president, Blake Bayes, led the ceremony, assisted by the current members who explained the NHS emblem, the colors, and the tenets of scholarships, leadership, character and service. Each newly inducted member then took the pledge presented by Harszy and were presented with a certificate, a pin and a yellow rose.

Dinner and refreshments were served by the cafeteria staff and 19 sophomore servers that have met the requirements so far to be inducted into the society next year. The Gillespie NHS is co-sponsored by Mrs. Kelly Bulla and Mrs. Amy Goldasich.
