A 68-year-old Girard man was killed Friday afternoon around 2:40 in northern Macoupin County after being struck head-on by a van on Farmersville Road near Kimes Road.
Illinois State Police announced Saturday morning that Randy Upp, 68 of Girard, was pronounced deceased at St. John’s Hospital after being transported from the accident to the hospital by Arch Helicopter Service.
Upp was westbound in a Chevrolet Impala when he was hit head-on by Tressa Perkins, 19 of Auburn. Police say Perkins was driving a Chrysler van when she overcorrected and crossed into the oncoming lane of travel after leaving the roadway to the right for an “unknown reason”.
Perkins was taken to Memorial Medical Center by Farmersville-Waggoner EMS. Her condition was unknown at the time of publication. The accident closed Farmersville Road for approximately three hours.
Assisting Illinois State Police on scene were Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department, Girard Police Department and Girard Fire Department.
