The Gillespie Cross Country team ran at Litchfield on Tuesday in a five-team meet. Despite the heat, the girls prevailed over a tough Litchfield team 25 to 30 making it their third victory out of the first five meets of the season.
Erika Gill led the Miners taking first overall with a time of 21:14 in the 5K race. Katie Polo came in fifth for the Miners at 23:20. Times and overall places of the remaining four Lady Miners were: Brynn Baker (8th, 24:07), Mia Brawner (9th, 24:49), Autumn Smith (15th, 28:09), and Lily Brown (16th, 28:10).
Three boys ran for the Miners. Leo Page led the Gillespie team placing eighth overall with a time of 20:36. Both Hatlee brothers, Levi and Luke, again performed solidly placing 10th and 11th with times of 21:07 and 21:15.
Another great victory for both Miner teams was their academic scores midterm scores. The grade point average for the whole team is just under 4.0. The Gillespie community should be very proud to have such an excellent group of young athletes representing their school and community.
The next meet is this Saturday at Southwestern at 9:00 am.
