Gillespie Middle School announced on Tuesday the leaders of the month for April. Earning the monthly award for last month was Joseph Baglin, Conner Darte, Jordi Vernon, Chase Helvey, Lizzy King and Rachel Young.
Joseph Baglin, son of Jim and Dana Baglin, was chosen as the 7th grade physical education student leader by Ms. Bray because he works hard in class, has a positive attitude and is willing to help others at any time.
“Joe is a great role model and an asset to my class,” Bray added.
Mrs. Prough, GMS Language Arts teacher, chose Conner Darte as her student leader for the month of April. Prough said Joseph is prepared, open-minded, kind to others, helpful, inquisitive and very responsible. Joseph, the son of Jason and Pam Darte, says that being proactive keeps his grades up.
Mrs. Clark chose Jordi Vernon, son of George and Amanda Vernon, as a student leader in her life skills classroom. Clark chose Jordi because he has a great imagination, especially with his art where he uses detail in his drawings.
Sixth grade teachers chose Chase Helvey as their April student leader. Chase, son of Mike and Amanda Helvey, states that “seek first to understand and then to be understood shows other students to work hard and listen to the teachers when they are speaking”. His teachers said he listens well and learns the lessons through hard work. He is eager to learn and has shown great improvement.
The 7th grade team elected Lizzy King, daughter of Chris and Nicole King. Lizzy was chosen because she “makes great choices that positively affects herself and the rest of the student body. She has a great attitude about herself and towards her peers. Her positive decisions are something that GMS students respect and ones that help prepare her and her classmates for the future.”
Rachel Young, daughter of Jamie Easter and Trevor Young, is the 8th grade elected student leader. Her teachers said she is a student whose positive attitude, outstanding work ethic and willingness to cooperate with others shines through daily. She recognizes when a task needs to be completed and steps into a leadership role to ensure her peers understand and are prepared to achieve the goal.
