Gillespie Middle School announced this week the leaders of the month for October. Winning the monthly award were Hermando Walker, Ian Brown, Alyssa Schuette, Luke Hatlee, Abbie Mitchell and Lexi Emelander.
Mrs. Clark elected seventh grader Hernando Walker as her October student leader because he gets his work done and follows directions. Walker is the son of Hernando and Sonya Walker. Ms. Bray chose seventh grader Ian Brown for the physical education leader because he dresses every day, works hard, has a great personality and gets along well with others. He is the son of Crystal Avery.
The seventh-grade team chose Alyssa Schuette, the daughter of Clay and Stacy Shuette, as student leader of the month. Alyssa states, “Leadership in my school involves being able to take charge of situations almost like a reflex”.
The eighth-grade team chose Luke Hatlee, son of Becky and Kelley Hatlee, as this month’s student leader because he is a “hard-working student who always gives 110%, stays organized, prioritizes his tasks, and never allows obstacles to stop him from reaching success”. Luke says, “I learned my leadership skills from my twin brother, Levi. He taught me that in order to play hard, you must work hard. That is how to live the most effective life, thus setting an example for others, making you a leader”.
The sixth-grade team chose Lexi Emelander, the daughter of Kelly and Eric Emelander. Lexi said being a student leader means helping others and setting a good example. Ms. Garde elected eighth grader Abbie Mitchell as her student leader. Mitchell is the daughter of Richard Mitchell.
