The Gillespie High School Cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleader’s Association Stunt Camp at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville last Thursday through Saturday, July 11 and 13 and returned with number of awards including a superior rating blue ribbon for performance of the stunt sequence, superior rating blue ribbon for performance of the rally routine, 2019 camp champion for best execution of the rally routine, 2019 camp champion for most improved stunting, two spirit sticks for exceptional spirit and pep for each day of camp, and the leadership award for “Inspiring Leadership On and Off the Field”.
The squad was also unanimously voted to receive the leadership award by the other squads attending camp. They also won a Gatorade game day cooler for their exceptional leadership skills and were honored for assisting St. Jude Hospital in their fundraising. Earning the superior rating blue ribbons qualifies the squad to attend the Citrus Bowl in Florida in late December.
Individually, Hannah Cooper received a superior rating for competing in a jump-off and making it to the final round; Callie Reynolds and Cooper were chosen as Outstanding Cheerleaders demonstrating leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation; and Megan Rife was selected as a All- American JV Cheerleader and invited to attend the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The cheerleaders are excited to incorporate their sequences into cheering for the Miners this sports season and want to give a huge shout out to the community for their cheer camp fundraising support.
