Students at Gillespie High School are putting in a lot hours of preparation for the upcoming musical, “Back to the 80’s… the Total Awesome Musical” written by Neil Gooding. The high school choir members have been working hard learning their lines and many dance moves from the 1980’s for the musical that will take place on March 10 at 7 p.m., March 11 at 7 p.m. and March 12 at 12 noon in the elementary school gym.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Dee Dee’s Designs in downtown Gillespie for $6 each. If any remaining tickets are available, they will be able for purchase before each performance.
The musical is directed by high school choir instructor Leanna Sawyer with Suzi Tiburzi, Artie Herron and Jennifer Parker assisting with choreography. With over 60 students involved and several full cast dance numbers along with many small dancing scenes, the cast and crew will journey back to a time when Michael Jackson and Rick Ashley were the Kings of Pop and when Atari was cutting edge technology.
On the journey, spectators will travel back in time to the era that brought the world the Rubik’s cube and join the graduating class of William Ocean High School as they live through their final senior year – as they experience the fun, the loves, the heartbreaks and the loneliness of growing up.
