Gillespie Middle School Indians scored early in the first inning, but one run was not enough to secure a victory. The 1-1 tie lasted until the sixth inning, but the Mt. Olive bombers scored 3 crucial runs that made the difference. The Bombers right hander proved to be too much for the Indian baseball team as they could only collect 2 hits. The Indians could never fire up the offense as they stranded ten base-runners in the 4-1 loss.
The Indian pitching force held the Bombers to only 3 hits while the defense pitched in and helped strand 9 base-runners. Even with only three hits and nine runners left on base, errors played a major role in the loss. With 4 errors, and one unearned run, the Indians are still making last minute adjustments as the season is still young.

The balls and strikes were provided by McKinney and Middleton. McKinney lasted 5 innings as he only gave up one earned run and just a single hit. McKinney went on to strike-out seven batters and walk three others. McKinney was relieved by Middleton in the top of the 6th inning. Middleton finished out the game for the Indians. Middleton struck out one of the eight batters he faced and surrendered 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. McKinney received the no-decision and Middleton took the loss for the Indians.
The hits were few and hard to come by. With only 2 hits, the story is short. The two hits came from Fox and Middleton. Fox had a double in the fifth inning where he later rounded the base paths and cashed his hit in for a run. The hit provided no spark for the offense though as the next three batters were silenced and the inning came to an end. Middleton had the second hit, which was a single that came in the fourth inning. Middleton managed to steal two bases to make it into scoring position on third base, but a flyout and two strikeouts left his dream of scoring stranded on third base.
With 10 runners left on base and only 2 hits, the Indians had a rough night after knocking off an area best team, Southwestern, the night before. The Indians are now 1-2 after a loss to Edwardsville Lincoln Middle School last night, August 17.
