Interview with Witnesses of Last Night’s Shooting in Gillespie

Thursday, April 21st, 2011 | Filed under Breaking News,Community News,Featured,Other,This Week's News | Posted by Pete V

Two Gillespie men say that the two suspects in last nights shooting unlawfully entered their garage on the 700 block of Gillespie Street around 11:30pm last night (4/20/2011).

Witness #1 said “We had heard there was a shooting nearby, and as soon as we saw that the side door of our garage was open we knew the suspects were inside.  We called the cops right away, and they were on the scene in a matter of minutes.”

An intense 30 minute stand off with police then ensued.

Witness #2 said “There were at least 15 police cars and a K-9 Unit on the scene and virtually all of the police had their weapons, including hand guns and assault rifles, drawn and on the suspects the whole time.  They sent in the K-9 to confirm the suspects were inside the garage.  After about a half an hour they finally came out and surrendered to the police.”

Witness #1 goes on to say “When I saw that the side garage door was open it was the most scared I have ever been in my whole life.  I knew they were in there as soon as I saw the door.”

According to Witness #1 and Witness #2 the two suspects are rumored to be brothers from Granite City, IL.

The victim, rumored to be Jason Walton, is in very critical condition with 3 gunshot wounds to the head and one to the chest.

Appreciate the update! It is important for our citizens to know what is going on in our town, and who these people are and where the come from. We are never as same as we think we are.

    Too close to home literally……

This info is wrong in a few details. The shooting happened at 712 Gillespie Ave then the suspects fled on foot and ended up in the garage at 17360 Three Mile Rd. The owners son and friend went outside to get something out of car. The son thought he heard someone talking in garage but just thought he was hearing things and went into house about a half hour later the friend left his phone in vehicle and went to get it and seen garage door handle turn and door crack open then shut. Right before this all happened they heard gun shots and then learned of the shooting across the field and then everyone told what they seen and heard. THen the police were called and sure enough they were in the garage. THere were several police from all over there and the suspects were apprehended. It was a very scarry night here at our house. Thanks to all the officers who responded they were very professional and made us feel safe. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Walton family also.

Thank you for the correction Patty. We appreciate it.

This is the EXACT reason Illinois should adopt the Castle Doctrine and Conceal Carry Law. We as Illinois citizens should be allowed to protect ourselves and our family at any cost.
