Jerome Paul “Butch” Scheller, 81 of Mount Olive, died Friday, November 29, 2019, at 1:10 p.m. at his residence in Mt. Olive. He was born on January 3, 1938, in Mt. Olive to the late Louis Wesley Scheller and Pearl Lillian Lehman. He married Janet Marion Korunka Scheller on June 8, 1957, at 1st United Methodist Church in Mt. Olive. She preceded him in death on February 12, 2008.
He attended Mt. Olive Public Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the Class of 1956. Butch was a supervisor for the Illinois State Police in Litchfield until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, being an outdoorsman, trapping, fishing, and raising pigeons. He was an excellent cook.
Butch is survived by two sons, Ron (Judy) Scheller of Mount Olive and Greg (Karrie) Scheller of Mt. Olive; daughter, Cindy (Rob) Butler of Mt. Olive; 7 grandchildren, Clayt, Brooke, Jade, Owen, Lucas and Sydnie; and one step-grandchild, Trent.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Louis “Bud” Scheller; one sister, Faye Smith; and niece, Joleen Scheller Huddleston.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Nancy Hubert and Reverend Steve Schoeber. Burial will follow at Chapman Cemetery, Mt. Olive. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Olive Academic Foundation, Chapman Cemetery or Mt. Olive Care Center. Becker & Son Funeral Home Mt. Olive is in charge of arrangements.
