Gillespie High School head softball coach Michelle Smith announced the commitment of Mackenzie Kasarda to play collegiate softball at Columbia College. Kasarda is a senior at Gillespie and the daughter of George and Amy Kasarda.
“Very proud of [Kasarda] who has worked hard and received a wonderful scholarship,” Smith said of Kasarda before saying she is looking forward to Kasarda’s senior season on the field next spring. “I will miss her attitude next year, but looking forward to what she can accomplish on and off the field this year.”
Kasarda is a 5-9 catcher for Gillespie and has been a three-time South Central Conference award honoree, three-time SCC Offensive Player of the Year award winner, two-time IHSA All-State selection while leading her team to three state regional championships. Kasarda hit .422 in the 2016 spring season with a .490 on-base percentage while recording 28 runs batted in, six home runs, five triples and 10 doubles.
“We are very excited to add Mackenzie Kasarda to our roster for the 2018-2019 season,” Columbia College head softball coach Wendy Spratt said on the school’s website. “She is a two-time All-State catcher who will make an immediate impact both offensively and defensively for the Cougars. This past summer Mackenzie hit .505 and had 22 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs and 60 RBI’s.”
Kasarda is also a member of the honor roll, the high honor roll, and the National Honor Society at Gillespie High School.
