Kravanya Funeral Home LTD, with locations in Gillespie, Benld and Bunker Hill, announced on Friday the launch of its new cremation service that will be housed in Benld. The cremation service, Ideal Cremations LLC, will be a subsidiary under the funeral homes.
For two generations, Kravanya Funeral Homes has been a name associated with the very best, compassionate and professional funeral services in the industry. Continuing in that tradition, the Kravanya family is expanding its already wide range of services to now include cremations.
“Over the two generations that we have been in business, just like any other industry, we have seen the needs and requests of families change and evolve when it comes to funeral services. We have seen a gradual increase in the request for cremation and as we have always done, we respect and do our utmost to meet the requests of the deceased and their families,” Anthony Kravanya said in a press release.
Kravanya said by expanding and constructing our own crematory, we are better able to meet their customer’s needs while reducing cost for those services at the same time.
The crematory will not only be able to serve the needs and requests of the deceased and their families but will also extend to pet owners and their pets as well.
“Pets are cherished parts of our families. We felt it was important that if we were going to take this next step in expanding the services we offer that we would be able to use the facility to its fullest extent and offer cremation services for pets as well,” Kravanya added.
Permitting and licensing documents have all been submitted for review and approval at the state level. The facility is expected to be fully operational in late July.
Rezoning for the crematory was approved by the Benld City Council in September 2016 after Kravanya requested the change to apply for permits from the Environmental Protection Agency and seek licensing from the state Professional Regulation and Licensing agency. Back in September, he told the council the nearest crematories are in Alton, St. Louis or Springfield and all are located in primarily residential areas like the Kravanya facility is.
The facility will produce no smoke and no odors. Ameren Illinois has installed dedicated power lines and dedicated gas lines to the facility and the facility is 97.1 percent green meaning that emissions from the stack will be virtually carbon free and primarily comprised of vapor.
