Dear Editor,
This was the 5th year of the Veteran’s Caravan and the 2nd year that the Macoupin Military Support Group (MMSG) sponsored it, and myself, along with Cathy Petrak would like to thank all those who made it such a success.
As MMSG coordinator, I would personally like to thank all of the participating towns of Mt. Olive, Benld, Gillespie, Dorchester, Bunker Hill, Staunton, Sawyerville and Wilsonville. I would also like to thank the police and fire departments of each community that participated. The caravan ran so smoothly due to the Illinois State Police and Macoupin County deputies who lead our group. Thank you for your time and dedication.
This event is amazing with the participation of the Illinois Patriot Guard. This group is the epitome of patriotism and Veteran support. Thank you again for your participation.
We could not hold the caravan without the support of the Staunton Area Veterans Honor Guard, Bunker Hill American Legion and trumpeter C.J. Meno of Carlinville. There was a 21 gun salute and taps for all eight Veteran Memorials that we stopped at… a truly touching moment. Thank you to the veterans who placed the flags at each memorial: Dan Frizzo, Tom Allen, John Hicks, Wayne Blevins, Malvern Allen, Lester Lowton, Glenn Scroggins, Bob Frizzo, Thurman Parrish and Deno Filippini.
A special “thank you” to the Macoupin Military Support Group who funded the delicious luncheon held at the Wilsonville Community Center. This meal was prepared and served by the Wilsonville Community Outreach group (WCO). Thank you so much for your time and dedication to our veterans. Thank you to those that also donated desserts and appetizers. Thank you to Randy’s Market in Benld for the beautiful cake and BK Bakery in Mt. Olive for the wonderful cupcakes.
Thank you to any veterans and others who joined their vehicles in the caravan, we loved having you.
I personally want to thank Cathy Petrak, John Veres, Joan Page, Carole Scheller and Donna Sanson for all the hard work and dedication to this event. I couldn’t have done it without you nor would I want to.
Sincerely,
Annetta Veres
Macoupin Military Support Group
Coordinator for Veteran’s Caravan
