Dear editor,
I am angry about the lack of representation and failure to lead we are seeing from our state representative, Avery Bourne. She was appointed to office, has failed to take a stand on over 100 votes, and can show no accomplishments. Problems in Illinois are severe, and we need someone who can lead.
That is why, as a lifelong Republican and the former Macoupin County Republican Party Chair, I support Mike Mathis for State Representative of the 95th District.
Mike Mathis served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he was a small business owner, jobs counselor and a coal miner for several years. I was also a coal miner, and I know Mike to be a very hard worker.
Mike is pro-life, supports concealed carry, and is a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the NRA.
I expect our state elected officials to stand up for taxpayers in government, but Avery Bourne’s voting record shows her lack of regard for our interests. She opposed a budget increasing funding for local schools, and claims to want property tax relief, but failed to vote on it SIXTEEN times. I want tax relief, and I want a state representative who will show up and vote for it. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
I hope you will stand with me, and many other Republicans and Independents, in strong support of Mike Mathis’ candidacy for State Representative, as he works to bring real representation back to the hard working residents of the 95th District.
Sincerely,
Dick Mottershaw
