Editor,
I am shocked and saddened by my opponent’s shameless lying mailers, attempting to scare people without any regard for the truth. I have never met or done business with the criminal she mentions.
I reject my opponent’s shameless lies, and I call on her to admit the truth: these are slanderous lies intended only to scare voters about a frightening issue.
My opponent and her team of paid political hacks have thought of the scariest thing they could find, and decided to send it to voters without any regard for the truth. She must have decided that thirty days away from election day is the perfect time to frighten parents, hoping that lies will distract voters from her poor record of protecting middle-class families.
Let’s focus on the issues: Rep. Bourne failed to take a stand on over 70 votes on important issues, and voters believe that if you fail to do your job, you should be fired.
Sixteen times since she has been in office, Rep. Bourne had the opportunity to vote for tax relief, but every time she failed to do so. When job training programs, veterans’ homes, programs for children with autism, women in need of breast and cervical cancer screenings and homebound seniors who need meals were at risk, Rep. Bourne turned a blind eye and voted against them. Rep. Bourne voted to weaken services for 43,000 senior citizens who need care at home. When a proposal came forward to give a lifeline to young heroin addicts, Rep. Bourne refused to make a decision to vote yes or no.
In fact, Rep. Bourne voted against funding to track sex offenders, putting our families at risk.
If you believe, as I do, that this election should be based on the issues, I ask you to look at the record. Specifically, look at my opponent’s voting record, because I think we deserve better.
Mike Mathis
Candidate for State Representative District 95
