On behalf of the Board of Education and administration, welcome to the 2018-19 school year. Every new school year presents an opportunity for staff, parents and the community as a whole to renew a commitment of unity in the quest to build a positive learning environment. This year is no exception as the Board of Education, administrative team, teachers and support staff have worked hard this summer to improve academic programming and learning facilities to continue to build a culture of success.
Academic programming remains a priority as CUSD #7 has added more elementary teachers including a computer instructor. A core subject teacher has been added to the middle school staff and Gillespie High School welcomes an additional special education instructor. Several positions on the district level have been added or are being considered as additions to provide support and implement interventions including social worker, Response to Intervention Coordinator and School Resource Officer.
I am pleased to announce CUSD #7 secured a competitive grant to restore the Birth-3 program. This program will include a coordinator and parent educators working with parents and children to create a positive and productive initial educational experience. This initiative will provide an added foundation to an already exceptional Pre-Kindergarten program.
These exciting additions to academic programs are enhanced with updated facilities and technology initiatives. The technology department has updated all current computer labs and has added mobile labs to assist students and staff in the pursuit of knowledge. Similarly, construction continues on a state of the art science lab in the middle school, refurbishing the middle/high school media center enters the final stages and minor upgrades to a variety of classrooms are completed.
In closing, I am very excited proud to be part of the changes taking place in CUSD #7 as we continue to improve in a variety of areas. These improvements are critical, however they cannot replace dedicated staff members, committed parents and motivated students. Together we can and will make a difference.
