To the Community,
Like other community business owners, I was certainly sad to find out businesses from out of town are considered over great local businesses to be a part of the Education Station Pre-School Holiday Market. I am a bit biased, but independent, locally-owned retailers and restaurants are what make up communities. It is time to start walking the walk. “Shop Local” cannot be just a slogan.
It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle around the holidays. Money worries might keep people awake at night, but many still overspend each year in the run-up to Christmas. Last year, according to the American Research Group, shoppers around the country planned to spend an average of $646 for holiday gifts. I ask you to patronize local small businesses this Christmas, for the good of local economy.
With that being said, it is time to put your money where your mouth is and keep local owned businesses alive. I encourage you to attend the Holiday Market, but make sure your purchases are from local establishments. Your purchases from vendors help the Pre-School in no way, so be aware of where your money is going. Vendors pay a single booth fee to Education Station to make their products available to consumers all day long.
If you are looking for Miner gear, make your way two blocks away from the Holiday Market to Ageless Fitness Center. Products including short sleeve gear, longsleeve gear, hats, winter gear, and camouflage gear embossed with Miner emblems will be available for purchase. I invite everyone to Ageless Fitness Center on Saturday, November 17, from 8am-3pm for the first Miner Market, where the Miner gear is made right here in Gillespie.
So this year, let’s try to support our local economy. Let’s start now, and make it a New Year’s resolution to take the trend into 2013. We have to look out for ourselves, if we don’t, we cannot expect anyone else to.
