LAWSUITS

Ross Beckman has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Tracy Laskach, Staunton, seeking possession of premises located in the 700 block of North Edwardsville Street in Staunton, along with $1,200 the plaintiff claims is owed by the defendant, plus rent to the date of possession and “holding over after notice of termination,” attorney fees and court costs.

SMALL CLAIMS

Macoupin County Veterinary Clinic, Ltd., Carlinville, is suing Tina Deming, Carlinville, for $71.70, plus court costs, that the defendant allegedly owes to the plaintiff.

Capital One Bank is suing Linda Trosley, Virden, for $1,224.83, plus court costs, allegedly owed on a defaulted credit card account.

FELONIES

Lora A. Hill, 40, Mount Olive, is charged with forgery in connecting with an April 25 incident during which she allegedly presented a forged document to the Mount Olive Police Department purporting to be a vaccination invoice from the St. Elmo Pet Clinic, St. Elmo.

Christopher R. Richer, 44, Carlinville, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with an April 3 incident in Carlinville.

Devin E. Thomas, 21, Chicago, is charged with aggravated battery in connection with an April 26 incident in Carlinville during which he allegedly struck a Carlinville police officer in the face with a Subway cup while knowing the victim to be a peace officer in engaged in the execution of his official duties.

William F. Horn, 39, is charged with forgery in connection with an Aug. 25, 2015, incident during which he allegedly presented to a Medora business a check for $35.59 drawn on the checking account of another person on which Horn allegedly forged the signature of the account-holder.

MISDEMEANORS

Jeffery L. Gosnell, 49, Carlinville, is charged with domestic battery causing bodily harm in connection with an April 20 incident in Carlinville.

Andrew T. Crossno, 31, Mount Olive, is charged with battery in connection with an April 23 incident in Mount Olive during which he allegedly struck another male in the face with his fist.

Adam Bray, 35, Gillespie, is charged with domestic battery in connection with an April 23 incident during which he allegedly grabbed his ex-girlfriend by her arm, causing bruising.

Kenneth E. Stone, 35, Virden, is charged with violating a stalking/no contact order in connection with an April 23 incident during which he allegedly yelled profanities at another male who was subject to a stalking/no contact order issued by Macoupin County Circuit Court in September 2015.

Griffin M. McGary, 18, Thayer, is charged with disorderly conduct in connection with an April 25 incident during which he is alleged to have repeatedly kicked the door at Casey’s General Store, Virden, in such an unreasonable manner as to alarm and disturb a Casey’s employee and provoke a breach of the peace.

Mark Bersch, 59, Carlinville, is charged with harassment by telephone in connection with an April 25 incident during which he allegedly made repeated harassing phone calls to the Carlinville Police Department.

Jessica A. Smith, 23, Wilsonville, is charged with battery in connection with an April 4 incident during which she allegedly bit another individual on the right arm.

Terrance D. Irvin, 18, Bunker Hill, is charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 in connection with an April 22 incident in Bunker Hill. Irvin faces a traffic charge for alleged operation of an uninsured motor vehicle in connection with the same incident.

Jessica M. Ray, 32, Staunton, is charged with theft in connection with a March 13 incident during which she allegedly obtained control over less than $500 in stolen currency with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of the property’s use.

Brandon Smith, 30, Jacksonville, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with an April 27 incident during which he allegedly pointed a BB gun that was substantially appearance to a handgun at a female victim while the victim was at her home.

Joseph L. Keffer, 30, Gillespie, is charged with domestic battery in connection with an April 25 incident during which he allegedly pushed his son to the ground.

William R. Werner, 20, Gillespie, is charged with possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 in connection with an April 22 incident in Bunker Hill.

Joshua A. Collins, 35, Mount Olive, is charged with domestic battery in connection with an April 27 incident during which he allegedly forcibly removed his father from his father’s vehicle by grabbing him around the arms and neck.

TRAFFIC

David R. Scott, Jr., 27, Carlinville, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with an April 26 incident on West First South Street at South Oak Street in Carlinville. In addition, Scott faces a traffic citation for allegedly operating a vehicle with an expired registration.

Jeffrey R. Wayman, 48, Gillespie, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with an April 22 incident on South Macoupin Street at Pine Street in Gillespie. Additionally, Wayman faces traffic citations for allegedly disregarding a stop sign and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Nathan M. Heaton, 30, Gillespie, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with an April 24 incident on Clay Street at Park Street in Gillespie. Heaton also faces traffic citations for alleged operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal screeching or squealing of tires.

Brent A. Baker, 39, Bunker Hill, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with an April 27 incident on Brighton-Bunker Hill Road at East City Limits Road, Brighton. Baker also faces traffic charges for alleged improper lane usage and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

Progressive Club to celebrate 90th anniversary

The Wilsonville Progressive Club will celebrate and host a 90 year Anniversary Party on Saturday, May 11. The party will include a catered dinner, a live band, and fireworks.

Doors will open at 2 pm with a catered dinner being served at 4 pm.  The Shane Kessinger Experience (live band) will play at 5 pm, and a grand fireworks display will be held at dusk.

The Progressive Club was originally established in 1934 by the Progressive Miners and was located on the northwest side of Wilsonville’s main street. The Club moved to their new building in January of 1949 and today this is still the current location at 212 Wilson Street in Wilsonville.

Wilsonville was founded in 1917 when Superior Coal Co. Mine No. 4 was sunk and this was the most modern mine in the Superior field. At that time, the little settlement which grew up around the mine was called Wilson. One day a worker paused and asked, “What are we going to name this town?” President Wilson was in office, thus the town was then and there named Wilson until 1919 when it was incorporated and the name expanded to Wilsonville.

The Wilsonville Progressive Club is operated and maintained by an elected panel of trustees and loyal members.  The Club is open to the public and membership is always welcome.  The large outdoor covered pavilion and manicured grassy side lot offer an attractive and convenient venue for any event along with inside facilities. 

If you are interested in renting for any kind of event, call 217-835-3122 during open hours which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 4 pm to close, and Sunday doors open at 2 pm.  Every Sunday afternoon at 4 pm is the Queen of Hearts drawing and the Club is on Facebook as well.

HSHS St. Francis Hospital offers volunteer opportunities for feens

LITCHFIELD, Ill. — HSHS St. Francis Hospital is offering service opportunities to area teens this summer through the 2024 Junior Volunteer Program. Applications are being accepted now through May 1.

Applicants must be high school students maintaining at least a “C” average, be a minimum of 14 years of age by June 1 and be willing to volunteer at least two hours per week during the summer program. Junior volunteers will perform a variety of duties in various hospital departments. 

Registration materials are available on the hospital’s website volunteer page at https://www.hshs.org/st-francis/community/volunteer.

All participants in the program will be required to present proof of immunizations for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), and Varicella (chicken pox). An additional requirement includes attendance at a hospital orientation.

A limited number of positions will be available. For more information, contact HSHS St. Francis Hospital at 217-324-8200.
