LAWSUITS

Honey Point Township Road District is suing Dakota Access, LLC, Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland, and Precision Pipeline, LLC in excess of $1 million dollars relating to a May 2016 contract signed between the parties to repair necessary improvements and repairs to the township roads as a result of the pipeline project and all the cost of the engineering, labor and material costs incurred by the highway commissioner from the pipeline project construction.

Heritage Manor-Carlinville, doing business as Heritage Health, is suing Charles Green and Jennifer Bagnell for $34,107.30, plus court costs, the plaintiff claims is owed for nursing home services rendered to Charles.

Brian and Deborah Zilm have filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Alan and Charlotte Westenberg seeking unpaid rent of $600 and cleaning fees to be set by the court and not to exceed $10,000, plus possession of a residence located in the 320 block of South East Street, Carlinville.

FELONIES

Aaron Edwards, 24, Nilwood, is charged with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender in connection with a May 26 incident after failing to complete required registration with the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department.

Stephen Shoup, 27, Birch Tree, MO, is charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine in connection with a June 11 incident in Carlinville.

Jeffrey Wright, 46, Wood River, is charged with driving while license revoked in connection with a June 1 incident in Gillespie. The charge was elevated to a felony due to five prior convictions entered between June 2009 and March 2018.

Nita Taylor, 49, Jerseyville, is charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine in connection with a July 12 incident in Gillespie.

MISDEMEANORS

Michael Elkins, 46, Jacksonville, is charged with deceptive practice in connection with a June 2 and June 6, 2017 events in Carlinville when he delivered a check of $74.49 to Sullivan’s Drugs knowing the check would not be paid by the depository.

Kevin Stone, 53, Virden, is charged with deceptive practice in connection with a December 2017 event in Virden when he wrote a check of $23.88 to Sav-Mor Pharmacy knowing the check would not be paid by his depository.

Bradley Smith, 55, Bunker Hill, is charged with deceptive practice in connection with an April 19 event in Bunker Hill when he wrote a check of $20.57 to Short Stop knowing the check would not be paid by his depository.

John Miller, 41, Gillespie, is charged with violation of an order of protection in connection with a July 9 incident in Gillespie when he contacted a protected party by telephone.

Stacey Manley, 40, Staunton, is charged with escape in connection with a June 8 and June 24 incident when she failed to report to the Macoupin County Jail on two different instances.

James Sloan, 45, Brighton, is charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a July 9 incident when he yelled at a female, threw her items from her car, and would not let her use her phone.

Marlena Wieseman, 40, Lake Kaho, is charged with battery in connection with a July 11 incident when she struck a female in the face with a closed fist.

John Wasielewicz, 39, Staunton, is charged with battery in connection with a July 7 incident in Staunton when he spit in the face of another individual.

Allen McMillen, 28, Eagarville, is charged with criminal trespass to real property in connection with a July 3 incident when he entered on land after receiving prior notice that entry upon on the property was forbidden.

Kevin Smith, 27, Fenton, MO, is charged with unlawful display of a registration plate in connection with a June 28 incident in Brighton after displaying a Missouri license plate not authorized by law to be displayed on the vehicle.

Michelle Meyers, 42, Caseyville, is charged with unlawful display of a registration plate in connection with a June 29 incident in Staunton after displaying a vehicle registration sticker belonging to a different vehicle.

James Gwinn, 36, Carlinville, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a July 13 incident in Carlinville when he shoved his girlfriend to the ground causing redness and scratches on her arm.

Kelsey Henke, 27, Staunton, is charged with battery in connection with a July 12 incident when she punched another female in the face.

TRAFFIC

Julie Woods, 41, Bunker Hill is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and expired registration in connection with a July 2 incident in Bunker Hill around 1:06 p.m.

Cody Cameron, 22, Chesterfield, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding 11-14 mph above the limit in connection with a July 6 incident on Illinois Route 11 north of Chesterfield.

Progressive Club to celebrate 90th anniversary

The Wilsonville Progressive Club will celebrate and host a 90 year Anniversary Party on Saturday, May 11. The party will include a catered dinner, a live band, and fireworks.

Doors will open at 2 pm with a catered dinner being served at 4 pm.  The Shane Kessinger Experience (live band) will play at 5 pm, and a grand fireworks display will be held at dusk.

The Progressive Club was originally established in 1934 by the Progressive Miners and was located on the northwest side of Wilsonville’s main street. The Club moved to their new building in January of 1949 and today this is still the current location at 212 Wilson Street in Wilsonville.

Wilsonville was founded in 1917 when Superior Coal Co. Mine No. 4 was sunk and this was the most modern mine in the Superior field. At that time, the little settlement which grew up around the mine was called Wilson. One day a worker paused and asked, “What are we going to name this town?” President Wilson was in office, thus the town was then and there named Wilson until 1919 when it was incorporated and the name expanded to Wilsonville.

The Wilsonville Progressive Club is operated and maintained by an elected panel of trustees and loyal members.  The Club is open to the public and membership is always welcome.  The large outdoor covered pavilion and manicured grassy side lot offer an attractive and convenient venue for any event along with inside facilities. 

If you are interested in renting for any kind of event, call 217-835-3122 during open hours which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 4 pm to close, and Sunday doors open at 2 pm.  Every Sunday afternoon at 4 pm is the Queen of Hearts drawing and the Club is on Facebook as well.

HSHS St. Francis Hospital offers volunteer opportunities for feens

LITCHFIELD, Ill. — HSHS St. Francis Hospital is offering service opportunities to area teens this summer through the 2024 Junior Volunteer Program. Applications are being accepted now through May 1.

Applicants must be high school students maintaining at least a “C” average, be a minimum of 14 years of age by June 1 and be willing to volunteer at least two hours per week during the summer program. Junior volunteers will perform a variety of duties in various hospital departments. 

Registration materials are available on the hospital’s website volunteer page at https://www.hshs.org/st-francis/community/volunteer.

All participants in the program will be required to present proof of immunizations for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), and Varicella (chicken pox). An additional requirement includes attendance at a hospital orientation.

A limited number of positions will be available. For more information, contact HSHS St. Francis Hospital at 217-324-8200.
