LAWSUITS

A judgment has been entered in a forcible entry and detainer complaint filed by Central Illinois Realty against Lisa Newman and Anthony Huffman, Virden, seeking $990 in alleged back rent, plus $795 in attorney fees and court costs, and possession of property located at 7 Whispering Pines, Virden. A Nov. 11 judgment awarded the plaintiff possession of the property and $1,621 in damages.

Central Illinois Realty has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against James Bolton and Christina Cates, Virden, seeking $942.50 in alleged back rent, $1,417 in attorney fees and court costs, and possession of property at 15 Whispering Pines, Virden.

A judgment has been entered in a forcible entry and detainer complaint filed by Central Illinois Realty against Sydney and Wayne Lomelino, Virden, seeking $990 in alleged back rent, $1,612 in attorney fees and court costs, and possession of property at 10 Whispering Pines, Virden. A judgment in the amount of $1,621, plus possession of the property, was entered Nov. 3.

First National Bank in Staunton is suing Brandon M. and Virgil L. Brown, both of Mount Olive, for $26,535.96, plus additional interest accruing to the date of judgment, attorney fees and court costs, allegedly owed on a defaulted $33,000 promissory note executed Nov. 15, 2013.

Macoupin County Housing Authority has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Aaron and Sarah Martinez, Staunton, seeking possession of MCHA-owned residential premises located in the 900 block of Wheatland Lane, Staunton, plus alleged back rent in the amount of $575 and other damages. The suit alleges the defendants violated terms of their lease by failing to pay rent for the month of October, failing to maintain electrical services to the property and registering electrical service in the name of a third party not listed on the lease.

FELONIES

Brandy L. King, 40, Chesterfield, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with a Sept. 24 incident in Carlinville.

Tyler L. Spangler, 23, Carlinville, is charged with forgery and theft in connection with an Oct. 9 incident during which he allegedly forged a check for $150 made payable to himself on a bank account belonging to another person and exercised unauthorized control over less than $500 in cash belonging to the same victim. The theft charge was elevated to a felony due to a previous conviction for the same offense on Spangler’s record from Oct. 3 in Macoupin County.

Sarah M. Springman, 32, Carlinville, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with a Sept. 26 incident in Carlinville during which she allegedly possessed less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine.

Karen L. Berry, 37, Carlinville, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with a Sept. 20 incident in Carlinville.

Kelly N. Samples, 27, Staunton, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine and obstruction of identification in connection with a Nov. 1 incident in Benld during which she allegedly provided a false name and date of birth to the officer arresting her.

MISDEMEANORS

William S. Alexander, 36, Virden, is charged with battery in connection with an Oct. 30 incident during which he allegedly grabbed a Girard man by his arm and refused to let him go.

John T. Pierce, 18, Brighton, is charged with mob action in connection with an Oct. 27 incident in Brighton during which he allegedly assembled with two or more other persons with the intent to commit a battery.

Craig P. Barnes, 28, Gillespie, is charged with criminal trespass to property in connection with an Oct. 28 incident during which he allegedly entered onto property in the 200 block of East Central Avenue in Benld after having been served with a “no trespass” notice by the property owners.

Jessica N. Landry, 39, Virden, is charged with escape for allegedly failing to report to the Macoupin County Jail on Oct. 17 to serve a sentence given to her Aug. 9 in Macoupin County Circuit Court in connection with a traffic offense.

David A. Turner, 25, Jerseyville, is charged with retail theft in connection with an Oct. 6 incident during which he allegedly shop-lifted electronic accessories and energy drinks from Casey’s General Store in Brighton.

Misty W. Rice, 40, Carlinville, is charged with battery in connection with an Oct. 7 incident in Carlinville during which she allegedly caused bodily harm to a Carlinville woman by striking the victim in the back of the head with her fist.

Gurdit A. Saini, 64, Carlinville, is charged with unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor in connection with an Oct. 21 incident during which he allegedly allowed a male under the age of 21 to purchase an alcoholic beverage.

Joni K. Fuiton, 59, Virden, is charged with domestic battery in connection with an Oct. 31 incident in Virden during which she allegedly sprayed her son with pepper spray.

Brandi N. Satterlee, 35, Litchfield, is charged with retail theft in connection with a May 2 incident during which she allegedly shop-lifted nail polish valued at less than $300 from the Dollar General Store in Mount Olive.

Blake L. Haley, 19, Girard, is charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 in connection with an Oct. 25 incident in Girard.

TRAFFIC

Jamie K. Reynolds, 25, Carlinville, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with an Oct. 29 incident on Illinois Route 4 at Quarry Road. Reynolds also faces a traffic charge for alleged improper lane usage.

Staunton man found guilty of criminal sexual assault

A verdict was rendered on Tuesday in about 35 minutes for a Staunton man who was found guilty of criminal sexual assault.

Dillard Dehart Jr., 66 of Staunton, was charged with the offense on February 17, 2022, after his niece had accused him of the offense and had secretly recorded parts of the offense.

The secretly recorded videos were played for the jury, according to Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jordan Garrison who called multiple witnesses and tried the case.

Sentencing for Dehart Jr. is set for October 4, 2023.
