LAWSUITS

Central Bank of St. Louis is suing Ronald J. Briddell, Staunton, for $71,037.96, plus five percent interest from Nov. 18, 2014, attorney fees and court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on a $150,000 credit line executed Sept. 19, 2006.

David Cisler, Staunton, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Dennis Thacker and Larry Haustein seeking $1,500 in alleged back rent, plus possession of residential premises located in the 100 block of South Easton Street, Staunton.

SMALL CLAIMS

Tower Loan of Illinois, LLC, Springfield, is suing Donald Garrison, Girard, for $3,828.56, plus interest, attorney fees and court costs that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $2,427.89 promissory note executed on Nov. 4, 2014.

Hurricane Express Bank, FSB, is suing Brian Venrick, Virden, for $4,061.29, plus court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted Lowe’s credit card account.

Cassara M. Ellsworth, Virden, is suing John R. Storey, Carlinville, for $5,783 she claims she is owed.

Midland Funding, LLC, is suing Debra Deering, Wilsonville, for $1,330.76, plus court costs, the plaintiff claims the defendant owes on an allegedly defaulted WebBank credit account.

Midland Funding, LLC, is suing Paul Schichtig, Mount Olive, for $823.,34, plus court cost, the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted Walmart credit card account issued through GE Capital Retail Bank.

Tower Loan of Illinois, LLC, Jacksonville, is suing Michael K. Dugger, Modesto, for $1,089.39, plus interest, attorney fees and court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $1,192.96 retail installment loan executed Nov. 20, 2015.

Heights Finance Corp. is suing Gerald Gillespie, Shipman, for $1,743.73, plus interest, attorney fees and court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $2,517.91 promissory note executed Jan. 19, 2015.

Wise Finance of Springfield, LLC, is suing Kevin Robinson, Virden, for $874.35, plus interest, attorney fees and court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $1,002.84 promissory note executed May 11.

Credit Acceptance Corp., is suing Earl H. Dyer, Atwater, for $4,835.15, plus court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $7,925.27 auto loan executed in September 2015 to finance the purchase of a vehicle from Freedom Chevrolet, Virden.

Credit Acceptance Corp., is suing Derek T. Martin, Irving, for $5,765.09, plus court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted $9,091.89 auto loan executed in February for the purchase of a vehicle from Freedom Chevrolet, Virden.

Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC, is suing Christopher Corethers, Brighton, for $745.64, plus court costs, that the plaintiff claims is owed on an allegedly defaulted Walmart credit card account issued through Synchrony Bank.

FELONIES

John R. Cheek, 48, Springfield, is charged with theft in connection with a November 26 incident in Virden during which he allegedly took unauthorized control of less than $500 worth of metal belonging to Snell’s Plumbing and Heating, Virden, with the intent to deprive the owner of the use of the property. The charge was elevated to a Class 4 felony due to a previous conviction for retail theft on Cheek’s record from 2000 in Sangamon County.

Zachary S. Hoffstot, 36, Mount Olive, is charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of battery in connection with a Dec. 6 incident in Mount Olive during which he allegedly caused bodily harm to a male member of his household by striking the victim in the face with his closed fist and pushing the victim into a chair. The charge was elevated to a felony due to two previous convictions for domestic battery on Hoffstots’ record from 2015 in Macoupin County. In addition, he is accused of causing bodily harm to another male by pushing the victim into a kitchen island.

MISDEMEANORS

David L. Middleton, Jr., 35, Gillespie, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a Dec. 1 incident in Gillespie during which he allegedly grabbed his female housemate and threw her, causing bodily harm.

William E. Ellis, 39, Girard, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a Dec. 3 incident in Girard during which he allegedly threw his wife into a window, causing her to sustain a cut to her head.

Jessica N. Landrey, 39, Virden, is charged with escape for allegedly failing to report to Macoupin County jail on Dec. 5 to serve a jail sentence pursuant to a court order entered Aug. 9 in connection with her conviction on a charge of driving on a revoked driver’s license.

Heather N. Lara, 38, Staunton, is charged with deceptive practice for allegedly writing a check for $248.36 on Oct. 1 to the Staunton Water Department while knowing her bank would not honor the draft.

Angela R. Drew, 41, Virden, is charged with deceptive practice for allegedly writing a check for $625 on June 7 to Jesse Hartsook, Carlinville, while knowing her bank would not honor the draft.

Trisha L. Kester, 38, Benld, is charged with deceptive practice for allegedly writing a check for $30 on Oct. 3 to Animal Doctors, LLP, Staunton, while knowing her bank would not honor the draft.

TRAFFIC

David P. Register, 46, Virden, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Nov. 30 incident on Illinois Route 4 at Snell’s Road, Virden. In addition, he faces traffic charges for alleged illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, improper lane usage and driving on a revoked driver’s license.

Daniel U. Robins, 35, East Alton, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Nov. 26 incident on Interstate 55 at mile marker 41. Robins also faces a traffic charge for alleged improper lane usage.

Amanda S. Seattle, 35, Jerseyville, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Dec. 1 incident on Shipman Road at Loveless Parkway, Carlinville. She also faces a traffic charge for alleged speeding 26 to 34 miles per hour in excess of the posted speed limit.

Melinda Jo Zippay, 43, Mount Olive, is charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Dec. 3 incident on Old Route 66 at Two-Mile Road, Mount Olive. She also faces a traffic charge for allegedly failing to reduce the speed of her vehicle to avoid an accident.

Staunton man found guilty of criminal sexual assault

A verdict was rendered on Tuesday in about 35 minutes for a Staunton man who was found guilty of criminal sexual assault.

Dillard Dehart Jr., 66 of Staunton, was charged with the offense on February 17, 2022, after his niece had accused him of the offense and had secretly recorded parts of the offense.

The secretly recorded videos were played for the jury, according to Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jordan Garrison who called multiple witnesses and tried the case.

Sentencing for Dehart Jr. is set for October 4, 2023.
