The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office cited a Mt. Olive man with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after the man lost control of his vehicle and wrecked into a tree last Friday, August 4.
Frank Scheiter, 45 of Mt. Olive, was traveling west on Tall Timber Road near Two Mile Road when Lieutenant Colonel Ibberson of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office said he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the oncoming lane of travel before heading off the road. When he tried to return to the roadway, Scheiter lost control of his vehicle and traveled through a grass area before sideswiping a tree. He finally came to rest after hitting a second tree a head-on.
The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Friday, police say. Scheiter was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. He was transported to Community Hospital of Staunton before being transferred to Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
Scheiter also was cited with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, wreckless driving and not driving on the right side of the road. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Meyer on September 6.
